Temporary closures lifted at several FWP sites in southwestern Montana

FWP crews complete maintenance and habitat projects

BOZEMAN – Several sites in southwestern Montana that were closed for repairs have reopened.

Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks maintenance staff have completed repairs at Ennis and Valley Garden fishing access sites, which are now open. Both Madison River sites were heavily damaged from ice jams and flooding earlier this year. Crews reconstructed the entrance roads, parking lots and other areas.

A partial closure of Poindexter Slough Fishing Access Site near Dillon has been lifted. A portion of the site was closed while crews collected willows to be transplanted as part of streambank restoration at Cornell Park Fishing Access Site. Aquatic habitat projects are nearly complete in other areas of Poindexter Slough.

Cornell Park Fishing Access Site along the Beaverhead River is expected to reopen by the end of this week. FWP staff have enhanced several resources at Cornell Park, including a new boat launch and streambank restoration. Visitors are asked to avoid fenced-off streambank areas that have been revegetated.

Maintenance crews have also completed road construction in Cabbage Gulch on Mount Haggin Wildlife Management Area south of Anaconda. The road is now open, though the WMA’s seasonal closure for wintering wildlife remains in effect. Portions of the WMA west of the Continental Divide are closed until noon on May 15, and areas east of the divide are open year-round.
