2019 class of inductees includes former President George H.W. Bush among other industry leaders and legendary anglers

Washington – On September 14, the International Game Fish Association (IGFA) inducted five fishing greats into the IGFA Fishing Hall of Fame at Johnny Morris’ Wonders of Wildlife National Museum and Aquarium in Springfield, Mo. Fisheries policy advocate and CSP Chairman Bob Hayes joined former U.S. President George H.W. Bush in the 2019 class of inductees. Also inducted were IGFA World Record Holder and marine conservationist Terri Andrews; pelagic game fish researcher Dr. Julian Pepperell, and tackle industry leader and conservationist Yasuhiko Tsunemi.

Hayes and his fellow inductees join 126 legendary anglers, scientists, conservationists, writers and fishing industry leaders elected by the IGFA Board of Trustees to the IGFA Fishing Hall of Fame.

“It was an honor to see CSP Chairman Bob Hayes inducted into the 2019 IGFA Hall of Fame along with President Bush and other great leaders for conservation and recreational fishing,” said Jeff Angers, president of the Center for Sportfishing Policy. “Bob has been a champion for marine conservation and public access for nearly four decades. We are grateful for his visionary leadership at CSP and in our community from coast to coast.”

Hayes began his fisheries policy career as an attorney for the U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and the National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS). He serves as Vice President for Coastal Conservation Association (CCA) and is a respected voice on state, federal and international fisheries management. He has played a part in nearly every U.S. federal recreational fisheries law in the last few decades including federal gamefish status for Atlantic billfish, red drum and striped bass, and the recent passage of the Modern Fish Act. Hayes has been honored with CCA’s Walter Fondren Award; the American Sportfishing Association’s Norville Posser Award, and named Conservationist of the Year in 2006 by Outdoor Life.
