Alaska: Intro to Ice Fishing Forum in Anchorage

(Anchorage) – It’s been a warm fall, but eventually, the cold winter months will start to settle in, which means it’s almost time to get out on the ice for some hard water fishing! Wondering where to start? Join Alaska Department of Fish and Game (ADF&G) staff at the William Jack Hernandez Sport Fish Hatchery (WJHSFH) on Wednesday, November 13, 2019, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. for an Introduction to Ice Fishing seminar. This seminar will be held in the WJHSFH conference room, located at 941 North Reeve Boulevard, Anchorage, Alaska.

This is a free event for all angler levels who are interested in learning about various ice fishing equipment including ice fishing rods, tip ups, augers, electronics, and different types of tackle and bait. Anglers will also learn about ice safety and where to target various species of fish in Southcentral Alaska. ADF&G staff will also discuss the current ice fishing regulations.

Advanced registration is required and space is limited, so sign up early! While you’re there, you can also sign up for another forum offered this month by the Division of Wildlife Conservation about how to select and put in for hunting draw tags. To register, please visit Hunting and Fishing Forum webpage.

For those anglers who are interested in fishing but aren’t quite ready to commit to the required fishing equipment, the ADF&G offers a free Rod Loaner Program throughout the year. During the winter, anglers can borrow ice fishing rods, manual ice augers, buckets, and scoops. For more information, please contact the Anchorage Sport Fish Information Center at (907) 267-2218.
