Whitetails Unlimited awarded a grant totaling more than $15,000 to the Port Matilda Sportsmen’s Association located in Port Matilda, Pennsylvania. The funds will be used to update and maintain the range on the club’s grounds. The club was founded in 1935 and boasts more than 350 members. They offer a variety of outdoor activities. One of the activities is a weekly meat shoot open to the public where individuals compete with 12, 16, and 20 gauge shotguns for a chance to win a prize package containing several meat products.
The club also plays host to a trout tournament organized by the Bald Eagle Creek Trout Tournament Association. The tournament is open to youth and adults alike. About 600 trout are premeasured, tagged, and stocked in area water streams where they are then pursued by tournament participants. In addition to the shoots and trout tournaments, the club also coordinates an annual hunter and trapper educational course held at the clubhouse.
