Temporary road closure to take effect at Planet Ranch

PARKER, Ariz. — Starting March 20, the U.S. Army Corp of Engineers will be increasing water releases from Alamo Dam to mitigate rising reservoir levels as a result of recent winter rainfall. Higher flows in the Bill Williams River can be expected below Alamo Dam and through the Arizona Game and Fish Department (AZGFD) Planet Ranch Wildlife Area (PRWA).

Due to likely river flows across the generally dry river crossing and associated potential public safety concerns for motorists, AZGFD will be temporarily closing both the north and south gates to PRWA until water levels recede and the roadbed integrity can be assessed. The closure is anticipated to begin March 20.

Although foot access to PRWA will not be impacted, the temporary closure will restrict motorized accessibility across this section of the Arizona Peace Trail and travelers should plan accordingly.

The public is advised to contact the AZGFD Yuma regional office at 928-342-0091 (8-5, M-F) for latest updates on the closure and post-release road conditions at PRWA.
