Description of duties:

Description of duties: Will assist with the implementation of wildlife and infrastructure programs on the Triple N Ranch, Fort Drum, and Herky Huffman/Bull Creek WMAs. Specific duties and tasks will include:

Management Practices: Assists area biologist in conducting habitat manipulation, which involves clearing and chopping of dense vegetation; controlled burning; preparation of sites for planting and cultivation of forage plants; chemical or mechanical control of noxious vegetation.

Development and Maintenance: Develops and maintains projects that facilitate public use, such as, new road construction, culvert installation and boundary and interior fence construction. Performs minor road repairs, maintenance to parking lots, campgrounds and various buildings. Responsible for maintaining all equipment in a safe and usable condition. Follow manufacturer's recommendations for periodic maintenance.

Hunting Season Activities: Works at hunter check stations and collects data in a neat and accurate manner. Maintains check stations as needed.

Administrative Responsibilities: Submits biweekly timesheets and invoices in a neat and timely manner. Attends regional meetings and trainings. Occasionally complete tasks on a personal computer.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Ability to operate, maintain, and repair heavy equipment and associated implements. Ability to work independently under harsh conditions. Familiar with outdoor recreational activities including hunting and fishing. Skilled in construction activities including carpentry, plumbing, electrical, and welding. Knowledge of land management practices such as prescribed burning and using herbicides to control vegetation.

Other Requirements: Incumbent must be able to operate tractors, heavy equipment, small boats and tools. Must be able to lift 50 pounds and walk or stand for extended time periods at night or in inclement weather. Must have valid State of Florida drivers license.
