Deadline for Youth Hunting Story Contest is December 2

Youth hunters between the ages of 10 and 17 are invited to tell Gov. Greg Gianforte their best hunting story. Winners of the story contest will have a wild game dinner with the governor and have the opportunity to win prizes from Montana brands like Sitka, Stone Glacier and Kenetrek Boots.

This is the fourth year for the Youth Hunting Story Contest. The governor selects 10 hunters, five aged 10-13 and five aged 14-17. The winners are announced in December and then hosted in the Capitol in January.

To enter the contest, young hunters can visit youthhunting.mt.gov by Dec. 2 and submit a story of no more than 500 words and a photo from their 2025 hunt. Hunters must be Montana residents and licensed hunters or apprentice hunters. Eligible entries include harvesting any legal game, furbearer animals or birds in Montana.

The 2025 contest's prize partners include Sitka, Stone Glacier, Kenetrek Boots, J2 Taxidermy, Murdoch’s, the Montana Outfitters & Guides Association, the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation and Zink’s Big Sky Archery Targets.
