Oacoma/Chamberlain site of South Dakota Ducks Unlimited convention

Themes include DU’s vision for conservation in S.D. and across international borders

South Dakota Ducks Unlimited volunteers and members have a chance to hear about DU’s conservation work, as well as celebrate fundraising and habitat successes at the group’s 2020 state convention. The event is scheduled for January 24-26 at the Arrowwood Resort at Cedar Shores in Oacoma/Chamberlain. This year’s theme is “Crossing Borders with Conservation” to celebrate Ducks Unlimited’s international approach to wetlands and waterfowl conservation. Help us celebrate with a South of the Border buffet, with raffles, prizes and silent auction Friday evening.

Presenters at the Chamberlain convention will talk about Ducks Unlimited’s conservation work in South Dakota and other issues facing waterfowl and wildlife in the state. DU biologists work with interested landowners throughout South Dakota to restore, enhance and protect important habitats. One of the more exciting programs is DU’s Soil Health Initiative, an innovative effort to promote soil health improvement practices, which benefit both agricultural producers and wildlife, including waterfowl. In addition to learning about DU’s local conservation work, Marty Nothstein from Ducks Unlimited de Mexico and Cynthia Edwards from Ducks Unlimited Canada will share conservation goals and successes from north and south of the border.

Ducks Unlimited has invested more than $100 million in South Dakota and has conserved more than 500,000 acres since the early 1980’s. These efforts enhance wildlife habitat for waterfowl, pheasants, deer, and many other species of wildlife and fish. People also benefit from Ducks Unlimited’s conservation work through improvements to water quality, soil conservation and recreational opportunities that help maintain the state’s great quality of life.
