Lewis & Clark Caverns State Park Trail Realignment Project

Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks is proposing to reroute a section of the Greer Gulch Trail at Lewis & Clark Caverns State Park.

The current trail starts at the upper picnic area parking lot trailhead and traverses a riparian area by means of a 100-foot bog bridge. This bridge is beyond its lifespan and has deteriorated beyond repair, becoming a potential safety hazard for trail users.

The proposed project would remove the old structure and reroute the trail to the adjacent hillside and later reconnect with the existing Nature Loop Trail with the construction of a short turnpike and culvert over the existing stream.

A draft environmental assessment has been published on this proposal. Public comments will be accepted through April 10. To view the assessment or to learn how to comment, click here.
