Indiana: Garvin Park to receive surplus rainbow trout

Garvin Park in Evansville will receive more than 300 surplus rainbow trout this spring through the DNR’s Go FishIN in the City program, in addition to the 550 trout already stocked there each fall.

The Go FishIN in the City program aims to provide catchable-size channel catfish and rainbow trout to Indiana urban centers. Last fall, Curtis Creek Trout Rearing Station provided 5,100 young trout to East Fork Hatchery. Those fish did so well the DNR can stock Garvin Park with surplus fish.

The tentative spring stocking date is March 21.

Anglers 18 years and older need an Indiana fishing license and a trout stamp to fish for trout. Licenses and stamps can be bought at wildlife.IN.gov/9339.htm or through a local license vendor.

Popular methods for catching trout include using ultra-light action rods with light line, as well as small inline spinners, marshmallows, or Berkley trout bait.
