The Gulf Council will host a virtual meeting beginning at 6:00 PM EDT on October 21, 2025, to gather feedback on what action to take to address the expiration of the federal shrimp permit moratorium.
The federal shrimp permit moratorium is scheduled to expire in October of 2026. The Council has selected a preferred alternative that would create a limited entry permit for commercial vessels to shrimp in the federal waters of the Gulf. Vessels would be eligible for the new limited access permit if they possess a valid or renewable federal Gulf commercial shrimp vessel permit at the time of the moratorium expiration. The Council would like your feedback before taking final action during its November Council meeting.
