Gov. Lee Began Pushing For Constitutional Carry in 2020; Now, It’s Come to Fruition So Tennesseans Can Better Protect Themselves And Their Families

West Bend, WI – The U.S. Concealed Carry Association (USCCA) today commended Tennessee Governor Bill Lee for signing SB 765 – a “constitutional carry” bill – into law, making Tennessee the 20th state to allow responsibly-armed Americans to carry concealed handguns without a permit. The bill specifically allows military members ages 18 to 20 and adults 20 and older to carry open or concealed handguns without a permit. Also included in the bill is an increased charge for theft of a firearm from a misdemeanor to a felony.

“We applaud Governor Lee for signing this important piece of legislation into law and making it easier for Tennesseans – especially members of our military – to exercise their right to self-defense. This removes the barriers for thousands of law-abiding Tennesseans to better protect themselves and their families. ,” said U.S. Concealed Carry Association President and Founder Tim Schmidt. “Great responsibility comes with owning a firearm, and as always, safety should be the number one priority. While the law may not require it, the U.S. Concealed Carry Association looks forward to continuing to provide proper education and training for the thousands of new gun owners in Tennessee and millions more throughout the country.”

The USCCA has seen increased demand for firearm safety and training courses as millions of new gun owners across the country are taking the responsibility of their safety into their own hands. The association now has over 570,000 members, including over 15,000 in Tennessee and growing, and has experienced exponential growth in education and training over the last year. In the last year alone, over 2,000 new USCCA instructors have joined the ranks of 7,000 instructors across the country.
