Rifle Builder Position at Horizon Firearms

Title:   Rifle Builder                                                 

Reports to:  Director of Production

FLSA:  Hourly, Non-Exempt                                    

Department:   Production

Primary Function:

Work with growing firearms production team to produce distinctive bolt action custom firearms that exceeds the expectations of current and potential customers – giving them and their build the personal attention they deserve so that they can have a rifle they are proud of for years to come –  while working with the entire team to meet/exceed company sales and production goals.

 

Position Responsibilities include (but not limited to):

  • Perform detailed assembly and disassembly of custom bolt action rifles
  • Assist in aesthetic design of inventory rifle builds including choosing fluting patterns, paint schemes, and stocks
  • Apply decorative paint and finishes to small parts and rifle components
  • Prepare surfaces for painting processes while following protocol to ensure highest quality results
  • Mix paint to match manufacturer's color specifications
  • Perform spot repairs and rework where necessary
  • Precision lathe and mill work
  • Prepare rifles for project completion – including standard safety checks, prepping rifle for range evaluation, assisting in evaluation at gun range, and final cleaning
  • Perform final inspection, package and prep rifles for shipping/customer pick-up
  • Effectively diagnose issues with customer firearms
  • Maintain accurate workflow log
  • Ensure consistent and quality work product in a timely manner
  • Maintain safety requirements in the workplace
  • Maintain workplace cleanliness standards (6S) by cleaning work areas, tools, and equipment
  • Be flexible to learn and perform other various work tasks in assembly/production
  • Other duties as requested

 

Skills:

  • Ability to read and build to prints
  • Ability to operate manual lathes and mills
  • Ability to operate safely and precisely both hand and power tools
  • Attention to detail a must
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize, manage time effectively, and adapt to changing priorities
  • Prior machining experience preferred

 

Qualifications:

  • 1+ years gunsmithing experience preferred, but not required
  • Solid foundation of firearms function and maintenance
  • High school diploma, or equivalent
  • Must pass drug test and have 100% clean background check
  • Must have at least 2 year clean driving record and current driver's license

 

Physical Requirements:

  • Extended periods of standing and/or walking (60% - 90% of time)
  • Stooping, bending, twisting, leaning (60% - 80% of time)
  • Lifting of 25-50 lbs. (25% - 50% of time)

 

Work Environment:

  • Typically inside a climate-controlled production facility and is required to move from various manufacturing stations
  • Exposure to manufacturing environment where the use and wear of proper protective equipment (PPE) such as safety glasses or side shields on glasses and closed toe shoes are mandatory
