Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries enforcement agents cited four men for alleged recreational fishing violations on Nov. 15 in Plaquemines Parish.

Agents cited Terrence Wolf, 45, of Harvey, Charles Blunt Jr., 52, of Marrero, Michael Wade, 49, of Gretna, and Dennis Wade, 32, of New Orleans, for possessing over the limit of red drum and possessing undersized red drum. Michael Wade was also cited for not possessing recreational basic fishing and saltwater fishing licenses.

Agents were on patrol near the levee in Port Sulphur when they found a group of men fishing. Agents conducted a license and creel check on the four men and found them in possession of over the limit of red drum and possessing undersized red drum.

Agents found Wolf in possession of nine red drum with eight of them being under the minimum size limit of 16 inches. Agents also found Blunt Jr., Michael Wade and Dennis Wade jointly in possession of 44 red drum with 33 of them undersized. The legal limit for red drum is five per licensed fishermen and the penalties are more severe if a person possesses more than 10 red drum.

Agents seized the 53 red drum from the men and donated them to a local charity.

Possessing over 10 red drum carries a $400 to $950 fine and up to 120 days in jail. Possessing over the limit of red drum and undersized red drum brings a $100 to $350 fine and up to 60 days in jail for each offense. Fishing without recreational basic fishing and saltwater fishing licenses brings up to a $50 fine and 15 days in jail for each offense.

Additionally the men face licenses revocations for up to one year and $25 per undersized and over the limit of red drum. The men may also be subject to civil restitution for the replacement value of the illegally taken red drum totaling $1,402.
