Sirphis Partners With Clyde Peeling’s Reptiland

Mount Pleasant Mills, PA – Sirphis, LLC is excited to announce their partnership with Clyde Peeling’s Reptiland of Allenwood, PA. Clyde Peeling’s Reptiland is a world-class specialized zoo offering an unparalleled educational adventure for the whole family!

Reptiland has many species of reptiles, but the one that is most interesting is the American albino alligator. Reptiland’s albino alligator, named Sirphis, is 10 years old. She is 6 ½ feet in length and weighs about 125 pounds.

There are two kinds of white alligators: leucistic and albino. Sirphis the white alligator is albino. That means she lacks the pigment melanin, making her appear white. The albinism seems to affect her eyesight in that she does not have as keen of eyesight as normally pigmented gators; she is also sensitive to light. Her diet includes rats and “croc chow” – a prepared diet in biscuit form (like a dog treat for gators).

Because they do not blend in with their surroundings, young albino alligators are quickly spotted and eaten by predators. That is why white alligators are extremely rare in the wild. They are mostly found in zoos, alligator farms, and nature preserves, and biologists estimate that there are only about 100 white alligators in the world!

Clyde Peeling, owner of Clyde Peeling’s Reptiland adds, “Sirphis hatched in the bayous of Louisiana in 2008. Had she not been discovered and brought into captivity as a hatchling, it is unlikely she would have survived to adult size; her albinism would have made her conspicuous to any number of predators. In addition, the lack of dark pigment makes an albino alligator susceptible to sunburn and blindness which is why we protect Sirphis indoors and out of direct sun at Reptiland.”

“We are thrilled to have partnered with Reptiland,” states Brooke Conklin, Vice President of Sirphis, LLC. “The albino alligator goes along so well with our company, and we are grateful to Reptiland for partnering with us and naming her Sirphis.”
