ADCNR Hosts Listening Sessions on Shrimp Fishery Management

The Marine Resources Division (MRD) of the Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (ADCNR) will host two listening sessions in November 2025 to gather feedback about a new shrimp fishery management plan currently in development by MRD. Participants in the Alabama shrimping industry and the general public are encouraged to attend the listening sessions.

“The Alabama shrimp fishery is undergoing an external certification process to demonstrate the resource is managed sustainably,” said Chris Blankenship, ADCNR Commissioner. “The new shrimp fishery management plan is a requirement for that certification. It is important that we receive input from participants in Alabama’s shrimping industry. If adopted, the new plan will be used by ADCNR to manage the state’s shrimp fishery.”

During each listening session, proposed goals and objectives will be presented by MRD staff. Attendees are invited to comment on the proposals and suggest additional goals and objectives for inclusion in the plan. Multiple public comment periods will be held during each of the two listening sessions.
