Williamsburg, KY – In compliance with the CDC guidelines, Kentucky S3DA staff decided it would be in everyone’s best interests to host the annual Indoor State Championship at six different locations across the state. With various venues being offered, more archers had the opportunity to participate, and Kentucky families had a shorter traveling distance from their homes. Kentucky S3DA State Coordinator, Kristi Wilson said, “Kentucky has an amazing group of regional coordinators, coaches, parents, and archers that have worked together to pull off what most likely would have otherwise been an impossible task given the current COVID situation. Kentucky S3DA came together and made a planned attack to accommodate over 400 youth archers across the state of Kentucky to pull off a virtual state tournament. I am excited that we were able to do this and give our youth the chance to get out and socialize (with restrictions), instead of being stuck in front of the computer screen, where most kids are communicating now.”

Kentucky Regional Coordinator, Rob Cox said, “This indoor season has been a great opportunity to get out of the house and do something that a lot of other sports organizations were saying was impossible. We’ve managed to have a full competition season for more than 400 youth archers across the state and we did so safely but with enthusiasm. Archery is truly a sport that everyone can compete in and I think we’ve shown that in Kentucky. Anyone interested in archery should take note that S3DA is opening doors for youth archers across the nation.”

Team Apollo Head Coach, David Messer stated, “There were quite a few archers who shot their personal best at the Team Apollo event site in Eastern Kentucky. We enjoy tournaments where we get to shoot with others from across the state, but it is nice to compete in a venue so close to home. The lower numbers in flights and the host facilities did an exceptionally good job of creating a “welcoming atmosphere” for archers and their families. I appreciate Kentucky S3DA and the hard work they have done to secure virtual sites for our state tournament.”

About Scholastic 3-D Archery

Scholastic 3-D Archery (S3DA) is a unique, family-oriented youth archery program which has grown exponentially across the United States as a next-step initiative to follow introductory archery programs. The mission of the Scholastic

3-D Archery program is to foster, educate and guide youth in the areas of 3-D, indoor target, and outdoor target archery as well as safe, ethical bowhunting practices. The goal of the S3DA program is to provide archery and bowhunting opportunities to youth in after-school settings, as well as with archery-affiliated clubs and businesses in the community. S3DA students participate in 3-D and target archery using compound and traditional archery equipment. Students can participate at local, regional, state, and national archery events and earn college scholarships from colleges and universities across the United States. S3DA addresses the need for a program to bridge beginning target archery experience and more advanced activities such as 3-D shooting and bowhunting. The program currently operates across the United States with hundreds of certified coaches serving thousands of young archers, grades 3–12.
