Whitetails Unlimited provided a grant for $8,500 to the Wisconsin DNR for the expansion of the Hay Creek-Hoffman Lake Wildlife Area public shooting range. This contribution adds to the $600,000 granted under WTU’s shooting sports program Staying on Target. The project is an expansion to the existing shooting range. Currently the range includes 50- and 100-yard distances with overhead shelter and benches. The expansion will include a 200-yard range with new a shelter and benches.
Whitetails Unlimited is a stout advocate of the shooting sports and is helping build the next generation of shooters by supporting public archery and firearm ranges. Major emphasis is placed on WTU’s shooting sports activities including Kids on Target and the Adopt-A-Team initiative. These target shooting initiatives provide an introduction to youth archery and firearm fundamentals to help nurture a lifelong interest in the shooting sports, and ultimately introduce the next generation to the sport of regulated hunting.
“The Hay Creek-Hoffman Lake shooting range has outgrown its capabilities,” says Whitetails Unlimited Program Services Director Russ Austad. “We are happy to partner with the Wisconsin DNR to help them expand the range to meet public demand.”
