The South Carolina Waterfowl Association hosted its annual Night Before Duck Season celebration on November 21 at the Wildlife Education Center, welcoming roughly 400 attendees for an evening of fellowship, live music and great food as the community prepared for opening day. With Thanksgiving approaching, the gathering offered a timely opportunity to reflect on and appreciate the support that makes SCWA’s mission possible.
The event also provided meaningful support for SCWA’s mission. Through raffles and live and silent auctions, attendees helped raise over $20,000 for SCWA’s conservation education programs and mission initiatives. These contributions make it possible for South Carolina youth to participate in hands-on outdoor learning experiences focused on wildlife conservation and responsible stewardship.
“Night Before Duck Season has become a tradition that brings our supporters together at the perfect time of year,” said David Wielicki, CEO of the South Carolina Waterfowl Association. “It also gives us the chance to introduce more families and hunters to the mission behind our education programs and express our gratitude for the continued support we receive from the community.”
Throughout the evening, guests learned about SCWA’s year-round initiatives, including Camp Woodie, Camp Leopold, Outdoor Heritage Events and the Gary Dietrich Wildlife Management Apprenticeship. These programs provide students and graduates with immersive outdoor education rooted in South Carolina’s outdoor heritage, wildlife conservation and habitat management.
For those who wish to support Camp Woodie camperships or SCWA’s conservation education programs, donations can be made online at www.scwa.org. Donors are asked to include “campership” or the program of their choice in the message section so funds can be designated accordingly. SCWA appreciates the generosity shown throughout the year and especially during this season of thanksgiving, as it helps ensure these opportunities remain available to youth across the state.
