S3DA Names Shelley Skinner Alabama State Coordinator

Williamsburg, KY – Scholastic 3-D Archery has named Shelley Skinner as the S3DA™ Alabama State Coordinator. Shelley will oversee all aspects of the S3DA™ program in Alabama including tournaments and trainings. She is currently working to arrange the state into 4 regions, where she will have a total of four regional coordinators, one to cover each region. Her goal is to purchase a portable indoor range, so that as S3DA™ grows throughout the state, it will provide for more flexible venue options for the local, regional and state events. She wants to see Outdoor Target competition grow as well and has planned to do fundraising to purchase Outdoor Target bales for the state.

Her goals include:

  • Educating the State of Alabama about S3DA™
  • Creating a contact list for organizations throughout Alabama to support the growth of archery and S3DA™
  • Developing relationships with archery shops and parks throughout the state
  • Acquiring sponsors for Alabama S3DA™

Shelley was born in Bessemer, Alabama and grew up in Montgomery and Southside. She currently resides in Cullman, Alabama with her husband, Joey, and their daughter, Katie. Shelley stated, “Our daughter’s excitement about archery has played a major role in us volunteering to be coaches for Heritage S3DA™ Club. We are now very excited to expand the opportunities of the S3DA™ program throughout Alabama.”

Shelley said that her daughter, Katie, wanted a hunting bow when she was 8 years old and being a protective mom, she was scared to get her one, so she bought her a bow from a department store for about $20.00. That particular bow did not hold Katie’s interest long and she still wanted a compound bow, so Shelley and Joey bought her one for her 9th birthday. After taking her to numerous archery lessons and tournaments, Shelley and her husband found themselves invested and interested. They eventually began wielding bows of their own. She said that she truly has developed a love for the sport, and she enjoys spending time outdoors with her family and making new friends. Shelley became a part of S3DA™ because she wanted to see archery grow in her community.

Skinner states, “I think by notifying churches, schools, shops, etc., about S3DA™ as an after-school program, we will see additional participation. Many schools are unaware of the program and the opportunities it offers for our youth. Support from organizations that have facilities capable of holding Indoor, 3-D and Outdoor Target competitions will be extremely important. I believe educating organizations about S3DA™ could result in more S3DA™ clubs, teams, coaches and students throughout the state of Alabama.”

About Scholastic 3-D Archery

Scholastic 3-D Archery (S3DA™) is a unique, family-oriented youth archery program which has grown exponentially across the United States as a next-step initiative to follow introductory archery programs. The mission of the Scholastic 3-D Archery program is to foster, educate and guide youth in the areas of 3-D, indoor target and outdoor target archery as well as safe, ethical bowhunting practices. The goal of the S3DA™ program is to provide archery and bowhunting opportunities to youth in after-school settings, as well as with archery-affiliated clubs and businesses in the community. S3DA™ students participate in 3-D and target archery using compound and traditional archery equipment. Students can participate at local, regional, state and national archery events and earn college scholarships from colleges and universities across the United States. S3DA™ addresses the need for a program to bridge beginning target archery experience and more advanced activities such as 3-D shooting and bowhunting.
