Salt River Outfitters Provides Guided Hunt to Kentucky S3DA Youth

Williamsburg, KY – Salt River Outfitters is located in Central Kentucky with coverage in six counties and over 9,000 acres of land. The property features everything from large agricultural fields to oak ridges, cedar thickets, flat land, gently rolling hills, limestone bedded creeks, and so much more! You can expect to see deer on the property as there is an endless supply of food and water sources that attract them to the area. S3DA archer, Gunner Wells, from Impact Archery in Williamsburg, Kentucky was recently selected to go on a two-day guided hunt at Salt River Outfitters.

Gunner stated, “The first day in the blind there was not a lot going on. On the second day, about fifteen minutes of shooting light was left in the day and a couple of bucks came out of the woods into the field. They were headed our way and I could tell one of them was a nice 8-point. With my Rock River Arms 308 Winchester AR-15 rifle, I put the scope on him and waited until he presented me with a good shot. I shot him at about 105 yards out and he ran about 20 yards and was down. It was my first deer harvest.”

“He put in for the chance at getting a hunt because he has been wanting to hunt and I have not really had the opportunity to take him. His guide, Alex Davidson, was good with him and showed him how to field dress a deer so that he would be able to do it the next time. Gunner really enjoyed this hunt. It provided a good three days of bonding between my son and me. I believe he would be interested in future opportunities if they become available,” stated Gunner’s father, David Wells.

Kentucky S3DA State Conservation Coordinator, Kerby Long said, “The S3DA Program is not just about target archery and Kentucky S3DA in particular is leading the charge in conservation education. We aim to get our youth interested in conservation in hopes that they’ll develop a passion for life in the outdoors. If they become interested in hunting, we want them to have the skills and education needed to make an ethical harvest and enjoy that success. We’re teaching our youth to be conservationists, outdoorsmen and women, and well-rounded citizens. The best outcome from this program will be youth paying it forward by mentoring others in conservation areas throughout their lives.”

About Scholastic 3-D Archery

Scholastic 3-D Archery (S3DA) is a unique, family-oriented youth archery program which has grown exponentially across the United States as a next-step initiative to follow introductory archery programs. The mission of the Scholastic

3-D Archery program is to foster, educate and guide youth in the areas of 3-D, indoor target, and outdoor target archery as well as safe, ethical bowhunting practices. The goal of the S3DA program is to provide archery and bowhunting opportunities to youth in after-school settings, as well as with archery-affiliated clubs and businesses in the community. S3DA youth participate in 3-D and target archery using compound and traditional archery equipment. Youth members can participate at regional, state, and national archery events and earn college scholarships from colleges and universities across the United States. S3DA addresses the need for a program to bridge beginning target archery experience and more advanced activities such as 3-D shooting and bowhunting. The program currently operates across the United States with hundreds of certified coaches serving thousands of youth archers.
