Great Outdoors Month® Begins, ORR Welcomes New Members and a New OREC Office is Created

Great Outdoors Month® 2019 is officially underway with a new national partner – AARP – and a successful Kids to Parks Day kickoff. On Saturday, the National Park Trust’s Kids to Parks Day connected 1.1 million people in all 50 states, Washington, D.C., and Puerto Rico with their local, state and national parks. Participants were able to #EscapeTheIndoors and enjoy healthy, active outdoor activities.

AARP – the nation’s largest nonprofit organization for Americans 50 and older with 38 million members – will be working with Great Outdoors Month® events and organizations to help ensure all Americans have access to healthy, active outdoor opportunities. To start, AARP is encouraging seniors to get outdoors and walk 30 minutes a day, every day, as part of their second annual “Fit and Fun Challenge.”

Throughout June, there will be events across the country representing an array of outdoor activities including hiking, biking, boating, fishing, camping, service and more. Visit www.greatoutdoorsmonth.org to learn more and to find and register for events.

ORR also has new members to celebrate! We are thrilled to welcome America Outdoors, American Mountain Guides Association, Dive Manufacturers and Marketing Association and the Sports & Fitness Industry Association to our coalition of 27 national outdoor recreation trade associations. We look forward to adding their voices to ORR’s goals of expanded access, improved infrastructure and enhanced visitor experiences.
