Tennessee, Idaho & Vermont Celebrate Enactment Day

Three states will enjoy enactment today and tomorrow of bills that advance knife rights. Knife Rights' bills signed into law earlier this year take effect in Tennessee, Idaho and Vermont.

In Idaho, Knife Rights’ first in the nation bill to prevent banks from discriminating against persons and companies involved in “the manufacture, distribution, wholesale, supply, or retail of…knives,” SB 1027, takes effect today. Knife Rights is taking the lead in protecting the knife industry from the adverse effects of anti-knife sentiment that unfortunately exists among some banks in this country.

Knife Rights supported SB1360 in Tennessee adds “knives, saps, and other bladed or blunt-impact defensive weapons“ to Tennessee’s existing statute that protects firearms manufacturers from liability caused by the actions of third parties. The bill also covers those who distribute, sell, or transfer the “qualified product” including knives. SB 1360 also provides additional protections over the existing statute. The new law takes effect today.

Knife Rights' Vermont Switchblade Ban Repeal, S.109, removes "switchblade knives" from the prior statute that banned a "switchblade knife, the blade of which is three inches or more in length." That was the sole remaining knife ban in state statutes. It also requires that the Court shall order the expungement of any conviction prior to July 1, 2025. This is the first time one of our bills has incorporated an expungement clause. The new law takes effect tomorrow, July 2nd.

Since 2010 Knife Rights efforts have resulted in 57 bills & court decisions repealing knife bans & protecting knife owners in 35 states and over 200 cities and towns!
