Michigan: free 'Novembeard' men's health screenings available Friday at Jay's Sporting Goods in Clare, Gaylord

To encourage hunters and others to get ahead of their health this fall, two "Novembeard" healthy-hunter events are offered Friday, Nov. 8, at Jay's Sporting Goods stores in northern Michigan.

The Michigan Department of Natural Resources, Jay’s Sporting Goods, Munson Healthcare and Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan have joined together to offer free flu shots, health screenings and more from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Jay's stores at:

  • 1151 S. Otsego Ave. in Gaylord.
  • 8800 S. Clare Ave. in Clare.

The Novembeard and No-Shave November movements grew out of local, regional and some national efforts to raise awareness about and charitable fundraising for a variety of men’s health issues, including prostate cancer and depression. Many participating programs and campaigns stress the importance of preventative health screenings.

At Friday's Novembeard events, Munson Healthcare will offer (at no cost) flu shots, blood pressure screenings, body composition screenings and information on heart-healthy exercises, healthy snacks and hunter safety.

In addition, attendees won't want to miss the couch-to-deer camp program and practice dragging in the big buck, plus opportunities to win a Panga Backpack by YETI.
