Top Prize Awarded in State Fish Art Contest

WHITE BEAR LAKE, MN - Ian Oh, a talented California 10th grader, is honored on the FLW stage by Karen Hollingsworth, State-Fish Art® Manager and Amanda Masters Marketing Specialist from Title Sponsor, Bass Pro Shops.


The Seth Thomas Spradlin Best of Show Award is the top honor given to one piece of art selected by a panel of judges from all winning entries as the "best of the best". Ian'sstunning watercolor of a largemouth bass is titled "The Awareness".

The 20th Anniversary State-Fish Art EXPO was held during the Forrest Wood CUP World Championship of Bass FishingAugust 10 -12 in Hot Springs, Arkansas. The announcement of the Best of Show Award is the culmination of the 2018 Contest. For twenty years top artists have learned about conservation and been recognized on a national stage for their high-quality rendition of fish. Bass Pro Shops is proud to continue its support of the State-Fish Art contest and will return as title sponsor in 2019. Wonders of Wildlife National Museum and Aquarium, recently voted America's Best New Attraction and America's Best Aquarium, will host the Missouri State-Fish Art event in Springfield. According to Misty Mitchell, Director of Conservation Programs, “we are excited to bring the contest to the schools of Missouri. As host of the Missouri SFA Contest entries will be assembled and judged locally. The winners are then advanced to Wildlife Forever's national judgimg competition. All entries are due by March 31st!

About the State-Fish Art Contest

The award-winning Wildlife Forever State-Fish Art® Contest is entering its 21st year of bringing children, art and aquatic conservation together! To enter, young artists create an original illustration of any official state-fish and written words detailing its behavior, habitat, and efforts to conserve it. Entries are categorized in four grade levels: K-3, 4-6, 7-9, and 10-12. Educators nationwide utilize Fish On!, the full-color State-Fish Art Lesson Plan, integrating the disciplines of science and art. It is available on CD, at no charge, and for download.
