Energy Company continues its commitment to coastal protection.
LAFAYETTE, La. – Chevron recently committed $500,000 to Ducks Unlimited (DU) to help support projects along the Gulf Coast of Louisiana.
The Pelican State’s coastal wetlands are critical natural resources and an economic driver for the region, but they also protect local communities and infrastructure from storm events, act as nurseries for fish and shellfish, provide the backbone for a $2.4 billion seafood industry, sustain a $12.2 billion outdoor recreation economy, and provide breeding, migrating and wintering habitat for millions of waterfowl and other birds.
“Chevron is proud to continue our long-standing support of conservation organizations like Ducks Unlimited,” said Leah Brown, Corporate Affairs Manager, Chevron Gulf of Mexico. “The work that DU has done through their Gulf Coast Initiative not only benefits wetlands and habitats for waterfowl, but it also helps protect the people that call these areas home. We thank Ducks Unlimited for their efforts.”
The half-million-dollar grant will support two important coastal restoration projects through DU's Gulf Coast Initiative (GCI). Chevron will fund the Cameron Prairie National Wildlife Refuge Moist Soil Enhancement Project to help manage 1,200 acres of wetlands in Cameron Parish, while the Port Fourchon Terracing and Living Shoreline Project will restore and protect 650 acres in Lafourche Parish.
“Working with partners like Chevron helps ensure our conservation work never stops,” said DU Manager of Conservation Programs, Cassidy Lejeune. “The projects that Chevron supports are extremely important to Louisiana’s wetlands and wildlife. We could not accomplish what we do without support from them and other GCI partners.”
