Last Chance to Own a Reintroduced Piece of Smith & Wesson History

Davidson’s announced the expansion of the exclusive N-Frame Model 20 heavy-duty exclusive revolver line produced in collaboration with Smith & Wesson to include a 6” barreled model. Now, this latest iteration is almost gone.

Davidson’s and Smith & Wesson revived the Model 20 as a limited-edition 250-unit production of a commemorative Texas Rangers tribute. The “One Riot, One Ranger” Heavy Duty sold out almost immediately.

Following the success of that model, Davidson’s and Smith & Wesson produced a 4” barrel Model 20 as another limited production run exclusive revolver. These, too, are now gone.

Based on consumer demand, Davidson’s introduced the Model 20 in a 6” barrel variant limited to 500 units.

SPECS:

  • SKU: 14302
  • Single/Double Action
  • Caliber: .357 Mag/38 Special +P
  • Barrel length: 6”
  • Capacity: 6 rounds
  • Premium rosewood grips
  • Deep blued steel frame and fluted cylinder
  • Serrated trigger face and wide, knurled hammer

This new Davidson’s exclusive carries an MSRP of $1,549.00. Consumers will very likely enjoy a lower price from Davidson’s and Gallery of Guns’ nationwide FFL retailer network.

The gun began life in 1930 as S&W’s “Heavy Duty” (.38/44) – an N-frame revolver built to handle high-pressure .38 Special loadings. Law enforcement users and handloaders wanted more penetration, so S&W used their large .44 frame to make a beefy .38 that could safely take hotter loads. The .38/44 high-pressure practice and performance helped bridge the gap between ordinary .38 Special loadings and the later .357 Magnum – in other words the .38/44 was a direct precursor in concept to the development and popularity of the .357 Magnum.

The series included a fixed-sight Heavy Duty and the longer-barrel Outdoorsman with adjustable sights. The revolver is recognizable as an N-frame with an ejector-rod shroud and a heavier barrel/underlug compared with small K-frame .38s.

Original production ran 1930-1941, stopped for WWII, then resumed 1946-1966. In 1957, Smith & Wesson switched from names to model numbers; the Heavy Duty became the Model 20 (the Outdoorsman became the Model 23). The classic production ended in 1966.

This 500-unit production run of the 6” barreled Model 20 is almost sold out but just a few of these classic revolvers remain. When they’re gone, they’re gone. Act now to own this special limited-edition Smith & Wesson N-Frame.
