S3DA Names Steve Yee Arizona State Coordinator

Williamsburg, KY – Scholastic 3-D Archery is proud to announce Steve Yee as the new Arizona S3DA State Coordinator. Steve will oversee all aspects of the S3DA program in Arizona. Steve’s goals as the State Coordinator include building a coaching staff of S3DA certified instructors, adding more S3DA clubs and teams throughout the state and working with archery shops, ranges and sportsmen clubs to provide additional tournament venues. Steve will also recruit and hire Regional Coordinators to develop and operate S3DA within assigned regions of Arizona.

Steve was born and raised in Arizona. He became interested in archery thanks to his dad. At the age of 11, Steve started shooting on a longbow, barebow and would go Javelina hunting in the Tucson desert on a regular basis. Just like Steve, his family is very involved in archery as well. His wife, Susan, is an archery coach and his son, Spencer, is currently in high school and competes for the USA Archery USAT team as a compound archer.

Steve is the event coordinator for the 21,000 square foot Pete Shepley Archery Center in Tucson, Arizona. This facility is based at PSE’s Headquarters in their Tucson facility. Before becoming the event coordinator, Steve was one of the lead tournament scorers and the wireless network engineer for USA Archery’s major events, including all USAT Trials, and Championship events. Steve is a former board member of USA Archery Arizona, having spent time expanding target archery in the State of Arizona and seeing target archery literally explode over the past nine years.

Steve is an archery coach, holding a Level 4 NTS Certification with USA Archery. He was 2017’s USA Archery National Coach of the year. He is currently the head coach of Desert Sky Archers in Phoenix and an assistant with USA Archery’s Compound Junior Dream Team. Steve is slated to attend the US Olympic Committee’s Coach Accelerator Program in September of 2019. Steve is also a competitor and his next scheduled tournament will be the 2019 World Transplant Games in England, where archery will be featured for the first time on their stages.

S3DA Arizona State Coordinator Steve Yee states, “I learned about S3DA when it first was introduced in the Southeast. I see that it is positioned perfectly to be a transition between NASP and JOAD and I see the huge potential here in Arizona. I want to become part of S3DA because I see the need for it. I see the need for expansion and for kids to have the ability to bridge the gap between recreational archery and higher-end competitive archery”.

Started in December 2012 by the Scholastic Archery Association, S3DA has grown exponentially as a next step program to follow introductory programs offered as part of 4-H or the National Archery in Schools Program. S3DA addresses the need for a program to bridge beginning target archery experience and more advanced activities such as 3-D shooting and bowhunting. The program currently operates across the United States with hundreds of certified coaches serving thousands of young archers, grades 3–12.
