QUWF Forms Western States Wildlife Habitat Council of Professionals

Buffalo, MO: The Quail and Upland Wildlife Federation, Inc. (QUWF) announced today the formation of the Western States Wildlife Habitat Council. By design, the new regional council is made up of professional conservation members and highly experienced habitat team leaders to aid states, organize volunteers, help raise funds and assist wildlife, clean streams and outreach efforts across the western states.

QUWF has been expanding in the western states for several years to address the issues and goals of western wildlife habitat, youth outreach, clean streams and wildlife populations.

“Western states deal with vast areas, are tasked with limited financial and management resources yet are totally dedicated to the task and we think this can be a great help” said Craig Alderman, founder and Executive Director of QUWF. “A state agency leader proposed to QUWF the formation of a Western States Wildlife Habitat Council and it now is reality.

“We want to support existing regional state agencies, biologists, foresters and programs with volunteer support, dollars for special needs, sweat equity and equipment when needed. Putting more bodies on the ground may not be the total answer, better coordination of all assets and options is.”

Currently made up of representatives of five western states, members include former U.S. Forest Service conservation leaders in forestry and wildlife, current state wildlife personnel, an expert wildlife biologist with exceptional experience on the ground and with Farm Bill programs, and two of the leading, highly experienced, western habitat team volunteers of QUWF.

“We think this combination of outstanding professionals, a virtual think tank for western wildlife, will be a great asset for the future,” Alderman said. “Knowing our chapters, members and private landowners are insured to do habitat work and controlled burns, we offer unique skill sets that builds stewardship of the resources private or public.”

With the support of the Bass Pro Shops and Cabela’s Outdoor Fund through QUWF, the Western States Wildlife Habitat Council’s positive impact on habitat, clean streams, youth outreach and much more is possible for thousands of hunters, archers, fisherman and wildlife observers for generations to come.
