Whitetails Unlimited Continues Support of Wyoming Fish & Game Harvest Surveys

Whitetails Unlimited has provided merchandise incentives to entice hunters in Wyoming to complete the Big Game Survey. WTU has been providing merchandise to the Wyoming Fish & Game Department since 2015 and plans to continue to do so in the future. Surveys are distributed each year to approximately 100,000 Wyoming hunters to estimate harvest, hunter success, and hunter effort. Information obtained from the annual surveys are used along with information from annual herd composition surveys, harvest field checks, and mortality surveys to estimate the size, demographic characteristics, and trends of each population (herd) over time.

Most game license holders are automatically included in the survey process. Antelope, deer, and elk license holders are selected randomly because of the sheer volume of licenses sold. Hunters who are selected to complete these surveys will be entered in a drawing upon completion. The surveys are conducted by Tetra Tech, a survey research firm based out of Madison, Wisconsin.

“The Big Game Surveys are extremely important to the WFGD to help them regulate herd populations,” says Whitetails Unlimited Program Services Director Russ Austad. “These surveys are not required, so anyway we can help draw hunters to complete them is a plus.”
