USA Shooting Promotes Two Key Staffers

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colorado

USA Shooting has announced the promotions of two key staff members including Brent McPherson and Stacy Weiland as the organization continues to strive for its 2020 vision and align for continued progression in athlete, coach and resource development.

Having started with the organization in late 2018, McPherson has made a significant organizational difference as range manager and SafeSport lead, prompting his new assignment as the Director of Coaching and Youth Programs. That position was previously held by Weiland, who was hired in June 2018. Weiland has been named Director of Licensing and Strategic Partnerships. The organizational realignment provides these two business leaders the opportunity to flourish for our athletes in positions they’ve shown they can excel in previously.

“Brent and Stacy offer a unique set of skills, professionalism, and experience that will have a profound effect on our organization,” said USA Shooting CEO Keith Enlow. “Making these moves allows our team to place qualified leaders into roles more suited to their talents and interests to support the organization. Both Brent and Stacy have proven that they are intent on helping us raise the flag and I can’t wait to see how they’ll move our organization forward.”

McPherson’s leadership and passion for the shooting sports is evident at the USA Shooting range everyday in his interactions with athletes, coaches and staff. He’ll now focus that energy on a much more instrumental role in helping secure the grassroots development and coaching progression for America’s Shooting Team.

McPherson’s passion for USA Shooting’s mission and the athletes runs deep, as demonstrated in his most recent position as well as his dedicated volunteer role serving as coach and administrator for one of the nation’s most elite youth shooting clubs, the National Training Center Junior Club. As a Junior Pistol coach for the club, he’s coached three athletes onto USA Shooting National Teams. His son, Bryston, recently just earned his nomination to the National Junior Team in Men’s Rapid Fire Pistol.

Prior to beginning his role at USA Shooting, McPherson spent the previous 30 years in key leadership positions at multiple organizations gaining the critical experience in marketing, human resources, organizational development and service management that will allow him to flourish in his new role. Over the last 15 years, he built his credentials in the real estate market as a publisher, marketer, mortgage representative, and as an eventual broker.

Weiland came to USA Shooting with a strong background as an amateur wrestling coach, former athlete, and as a successful entrepreneur in international business and the outdoor industry. With over 20 years of management experience, Weiland joined USA Shooting and immediately began forging stronger alliances with key youth development organizations in the shooting sports. Additionally, Weiland has overseen the relaunch of the USA Shooting Coach Academy program as well as Train the Trainer, with the goal of coach acquisition, development and education.

USA Shooting is the pinnacle of the shooting sports community and we have gathered the top national coaches and experts to develop a training program that will provide the foundation and fundamental skills for coaches to engage new shooters. The first-phase of the program will concentrate on the shotgun sports. One of USA Shooting’s priorities is to engage communities and help them promote and increase participation in the shooting sports. McPherson will take the hand-off from Weiland to help launch the coach training program that will feature extensive online modules and a one-day ground course hosted by USA Shooting Development coaches and Master Instructors.

“We believe this training program will be a nice compliment to existing and developing shooting sports programs,” Weiland asserts. “By providing this course work, our community will be able to expand their shooting program capabilities. If we are going to successfully create new shooting sports athletes, it’s imperative that they are given the right foundation as well as the physical and mental skills needed to enjoy the shooting sports. We’re excited about this program because it directly supports the recruitment, retention and reactivation efforts we are looking for.”

Weiland will now help drive the RAISE THE FLAG campaign that USA Shooting launched on April 24, specifically setting up licensee arrangements with key partners and retailers for unique Raise The Flag branded apparel and merchandise. The co-branded line of apparel and merchandise will also be available for fundraising opportunities to the Midway Foundation and the 3,200-plus teams they support.

He’ll also help boost USA Shooting’s Certified Training Center program, ensuring more facilities around the country have the means to support and actively promote the Olympic shooting sports and provide training and competition for more grassroots development efforts.
