S3DA & Whitetails Unlimited Long-Shot Challenge

Williamsburg, KY – Whitetails Unlimited is a national nonprofit conservation organization that was founded in 1982. With a member base of over 113,000 Whitetails Unlimited focuses on projects such as educational programs, wildlife habitat enhancement and acquisition and shooting sports for future generations. The organization has supported S3DA (Scholastic 3-D Archery) at the national level but has also granted thousands of dollars to local clubs to assist in growing youth archery and conservation efforts at the grassroots level.

“Whitetails Unlimited is a valued partner of S3DA. Their emphasis on expanding and preserving the values of ethical hunting, conservation and education goes hand in hand with the mission of S3DA. We are proud to work with such an outstanding organization and will strive to continue work to further the mission of both by introducing a new generation of youth archers to the benefits of a lifetime in the outdoors,” Jennie Richardson, S3DA Executive Director.

Recently, the 2019 S3DA Outdoor Target and 3-D National Championships were held at the Mermet Lake State Conservation Area outside of Metropolis, Illinois. The week-long event drew more than 1,100 participants from across the country as well as countless parents, spectators and vendors. During the week, several novelty type events were held to challenge the archers. One of those events was the Whitetails Unlimited Long-Shot Challenge. Participants attempted to hit an orange dot on a 3-D whitetail target at distances greater than their maximum distance for their division and class. Those who were skilled enough to hit the orange dot were rewarded with a certificate for a tasty treat. However, everyone who participated was entered in a drawing to win the 3-D target they were attempting to hit.

“Whitetails Unlimited is proud to support S3DA and everyone who participates in their archery programs and competitions. Developing the next generation of bow hunters is of critical importance to the sport, and S3DA’s emphasis on safety, ethics, and having fun is a great way to introduce youngsters to archery. Archery is a great sport, and an activity that can be a lifetime recreational pursuit. We’re proud to support S3DA because they do an outstanding job teaching ethics, safety, and responsibility, as they involve youngsters in developing their archery skills. Students that participate in S3DA benefit in many ways, and while we understand that not all of them will develop into bow hunters, all of them will learn positive life lessons through the experience,” Russ Austad, Whitetails Unlimited – Program Services Director. About Scholastic 3-D Archery

Scholastic 3-D Archery (S3DA) is a unique, family-oriented youth archery program which has grown exponentially across the United States as a next-step initiative to follow introductory archery programs. The mission of the Scholastic 3-D Archery program is to foster, educate and guide youth in the areas of 3-D, indoor target and outdoor target archery as well as safe, ethical bowhunting practices. The goal of the S3DA program is to provide archery and bowhunting opportunities to youth in after-school settings, as well as with archery-affiliated clubs and businesses in the community. S3DA students participate in 3-D and target archery using compound and traditional archery equipment. Students can participate at local, regional, state and national archery events and earn college scholarships from colleges and universities across the United States. S3DA addresses the need for a program to bridge beginning target archery experience and more advanced activities such as 3-D shooting and bowhunting. The program currently operates across the United States with hundreds of certified coaches serving thousands of young archers, grades 3–12.
