Michigan: Fisherman's Island State Park day-use area to reopen

Fisherman's Island State Park day-use area to reopen, new camping reservations available next week

After high water and storm damage caused the partial closure of Fisherman's Island State Park's main access road and campsites #36-80, conditions have improved and the park road has been repaired.

As a result, the day-use area, located along the Lake Michigan shoreline park in Charlevoix County, will open to vehicles Friday, June 11.

"Fisherman's Island, along with several other state parks and harbors, has experienced the impacts of historic high water levels along the Great Lakes," said Tom Copenhaver, park supervisor. "We've been working hard to complete repairs to the road and our entire staff is excited to fully open up the park again this year."

In addition, new reservations at the park's rustic campground will open up for overnight camping dates beginning Friday, June 11, and later. Reservations for those added camping opportunities will be available in the reservation system beginning at 8 a.m. Wednesday, June 9. Reservations can be made at at MiDNRReservations.com.
