QUWF Sponsors Forest and Wildlife Management Workshop for Private Landowners

Buffalo, MO: The Quail and Upland Wildlife Federation (QUWF) was formed to provide direct assistance and on the ground help to grass roots veteran landowners and all private landowners who wish to perform and plan wildlife habitat restoration and clean stream projects on their lands or lands they lease. “Our success with the ruffed grouse restoration and restocking shows what dedication to planning, coaching and hands on involvement all the time with our QUWF landowners can do” states Nick Prough Chief Wildlife Biologist and manager of the grouse coop in Missouri. “We have worked, planned and sweated over a decade with extensive timber stand improvements with a wholistic approach for all upland game from deer, turkey, quail, rabbits, doves on over 100,000 acres working with 110 private landowners” Nick explains.

To help other landowners see first-hand the various work being done on a 25- year plan, the QUWF Grouse Chapter, in partnership with the Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) puts on the Forest and Wildlife Management Workshop, formerly known as “Day with the Grouse” to take landowners to various examples of wildlife habitat practices. The various stops along the tour are manned by some of the best biologists in wildlife management today who explain the process in detail.

The event is scheduled for Saturday, September 10th from 9 AM to 12:30 PM, hosted at the Bill and Margie Haag property, 8801 Little Tavern Creek Road, Portland, MO (near Hermann MO) 65067. Participants must RSVP and pre-register by September 8th by calling Tom Westoff at 573-289-0242. Last year there were over 100 landowner attendees.

Lunch will be provided by the QUWF Grouse Chapter after the tours at the Pioneer Cabin constructed circa 1860 at the property. QUWF’s Chief Biologist and MDC Private Lands staff will be on hand for all questions from all landowners.
