Indiana: candlelight tour at Spring Mill pioneer village is Sept. 21

See Spring Mill State Park’s Pioneer Village the way mid-1800s residents would have seen it during the park’s candlelight tour on Sept. 21 from 4 to 9 p.m.

The tour is sponsored by the Gamma Epsilon Chapter of Tri Kappa of Mitchell, which has sponsored it since 1967. During the event, chapter members and Spring Mill employees will reenact pioneer life in the Pioneer Village in traditional dress. Visitors are asked to bring a flashlight.

Pioneer crafts, demonstrations, and entertainment by many musical groups will be a part of the tour. Tri Kappa members will sell concession and food items in the Carriage House.

There will be shuttles from the Lakeview Activity Center, campground, and Spring Mill Inn to the Pioneer Village thanks to the Lawrence County Community Foundation and Lawrence County Tourism, who provided grants.

The park admission fee of $7 for in-state vehicles and $9 for out-of-state vehicles will be charged, though admission to the event is free.

Tri Kappa is a statewide sorority that supports many community and state charity, educational, and cultural projects. It has become a popular kickoff event for the week-long Persimmon Festival in Mitchell.

Spring Mill State Park (on.IN.gov/springmillsp) is at 3333 State Road 60 East, Mitchell, 47446.
