The Nye County Sheriff’s Office will be announcing the testing and possible deployment of Weapon-Mounted Cameras (WMCs) at 9:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 23 at a news conference hosted by Viridian Weapon Technologies at The Venetian in Las Vegas. Sheriff Sharon Wehrly and officials from Minnesota-based Viridian will give a short news conference on the impact of the new technology.
The Nye County Sheriff’s office patrols the third-largest county in the nation and joins over 400 other agencies—including Las Vegas Metro Police—that have used the FACT Duty Weapon-Mounted Camera. These WMCs record automatically, provide an unobstructed view of critical use-of-force events from the end of the firearm and generate significantly less data than body cameras.
