SCI Foundation Helps Provide S3DA Archery With New Mexico Mule Deer Hunt

Williamsburg, KY – The Safari Club International Foundation (SCI) is a leader in protecting the freedom to hunt and in promoting wildlife conservation worldwide. SCI is composed of members that are dedicated to making a positive contribution to wildlife and ecosystems, adhering to game laws, and assisting game and fish officers. S3DA has created partnerships with various organizations to teach members the same principles that the Safari Club International Foundation was founded on. Many S3DA student members are not only involved in archery but they also participate in various outdoor sports, such as trap shooting, skeet shooting, bowfishing and hunting. Whether a student chooses to bowhunt or not, through S3DA, they learn about the North American Model of Wildlife Conservation and the important role bowhunters and bowhunting play in the preservation of our wild game animals.

Recently, S3DA had the opportunity to hold a drawing for a New Mexico Mule Deer Tag donated by the Safari Club International Foundation. Many applicants from across the United States applied for the chance to win this hunt and Morgan “Goose” Green from Sherwood Forest Archery in Greenwood, South Carolina was the lucky winner. When Morgan got the news that she had won, she was overjoyed, tearful and extremely thankful for the opportunity.

Morgan and her father, Matthew, made all the preparations for this once-in-a-lifetime hunt and flew to New Mexico. They met with the guide, Brett Jensen, and set out to fulfill the mule deer tag. Morgan had an amazing time hunting the new terrain, glassing lots of deer, coyotes, road runners and a javelina. She got close to a shot opportunity at the first light of day, but the mule deer quickly went out of range. After more spotting and stalking, they were in position to fulfill the tag. Brett said, “I found this buck and we formulated a plan. With the assistance of Anthony Rodriguez who came to help and spot for me while we made the stalk, we made it happen. Morgan finalized the trip with a beautiful 129 yard shot with her muzzle loader.”

Morgan said, “Last day magic!! I would like to thank S3DA, Safari Club International, Brett Jensen and my family for providing me the opportunity of a lifetime. This was truly one of the most humbling and amazing experiences of my life. I am blessed with the opportunities that I have in the outdoors and I want to show other young girls that we can do the same things the guys do but better.”

Morgan’s father, Matthew Green stated, “This was the toughest hunting I have ever seen. Morgan and I have gained huge respect for the women and men that hunt this terrain all the time. It is frustrating to be able to see all the deer but not be able to get to them. We are thankful for our wonderful guide, this amazing opportunity and a successful harvest for Goose!”
