Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries enforcement agents cited two men for alleged multiple recreational fishing violations and one man for resisting an officer in Plaquemines Parish on March 21.

Agents cited Henry Hermogenes, 40, of Kenner, and Augusto Velasquez Dubon, 38, of Metairie, for taking undersized red drum, taking over the limit of red drum, taking undersized black drum and fishing without a fishing license. Hermogenes was also cited for resisting an officer.

Agents witnessing the men exiting an area of marsh off Tidewater Road located in Venice with a canoe and multiple pieces of fishing gear. Agents then stopped the men at a local store in Buras where agents inquired about their fishing activity in Venice.

When Dubon was asked if they had any fish he produced an ice chest from the truck containing 17 red drum, nine black drum and one spotted sea trout. At this time Hermogenes exited the store and after making visual contact with the agents, fled on foot behind the store. The agents then pursued him to Buras River Road where he was detained and brought back to his vehicle.

Agents found the men in possession of 12 red drum under the legal size limit of 16 inches, seven red drum over the daily limit and eight black drum under the legal size limit of 16 inches. Agents also discovered that neither men possessed fishing licenses.

Resisting an officer brings up to a $500 fine and six months in jail.

Taking undersized red drum, over the limit of red drum and taking undersized black drum carries a $100 to $350 fine and up to 60 days in jail for each offense. The men also face an additional $150 fine per red drum over the legal limit. Angling without a basic or saltwater license brings up to a $50 fine and 15 days in jail for each offense.

The men could also have their fishing privileges revoked for a period of three years and civil restitution for the illegally taken fish totaling $497.90.
