Springfield’s Hellcat Tops May/June Handgunner

“A Revolutionary Firearm” — Springfield’s Hellcat Tops May/June Handgunner

“The new Hellcat changes things,” professes Will Dabbs, MD. The Springfield Armory Micro-Compact 9mm featured in the May/June issue of American Handgunner boasts an engineering feat previously unseen in a palm-sized carry gun: 14-round capacity.

Assembled into a truly compact package (3" barrel, 4" height and 6" length) and enhanced by such features as U-Notch iron sights and a Shield Sights Reflex Mini Sight-Compact, Dabbs admits, “I’d gladly tell you if I found some ugly little secret about the gun making it somehow less cool than it appears, but I was vexed. The Hellcat has, in one fell swoop, rendered all my concealed carry guns obsolete.”

With three barrels and five cartridges, the G-2-Three Contender pistol from Thompson/Center may sound like a 24th century spaceship robot, but its versatility makes opportunities endless, particularly for hunters. Sam Fadala tested the G-2-Three in .22 LR, .22 Hornet, .38 Special, .357 Magnum and .357 Maximum with exceptional results all around. Shooting .357 Mag., Sam notes, “A 180-gr. Barnes Tipped TSX FG gained 1,800 fps with 20-grains of Lil’ Gun. What’s not to like there?”

The Handgun Of The Month giveaway package for May/June is topped by a Bond Arms Rowdy double-barrel pistol, but don’t be fooled by its diminutive looks. The single-action, double-barrel Rowdy is chambered for .45 Colt and 2.5" shells. It features a stainless steel finish and black rubber grips, and its removable barrels are interchangeable with all standard Bond Arms barrels. The winner will also receive an Up & At ’Em EDC knife from CRKT, ProTac HL-X flashlight from Streamlight and Gun-Werkz gun cleaner. Valued at more than $520, readers are encouraged to enter the free drawing by visiting www.americanhandgunner.com/giveaways.

The May/June issue also includes “A Cut Above!” — Pat Covert details how Zero Tolerance Knives blend slice with style. This issue it’s about the numbers: Executive Editor Tom McHale lists the 10 best airguns for affordable all-season fun, and the Handgunner team highlights nine of the best new product finds from SHOT Show 2020. Wondering how to manage guns for end-of-life events? David Freeman offers advice in “Firearms Trusts.” With his unique talent for storytelling, Will Dabbs, MD takes the reins of the longtime reader favorite column, Guncrank Diaries.
