Florida: New Deer and Wild Hog Hunts at Loxahatchee NWR

Arthur R. Marshall Loxahatchee National Wildlife Refuge announced new white-tailed deer and wild hog hunting opportunities will be available during the 2021-2022 season. The FWC will issue permits for these hunts via random draw. The phase I application period will begin at 10 a.m. ET on June 18 and run through 11:59 p.m. ET June 28. Any permits remaining after phase I will be issued on a first-come, first-served basis beginning July 1. Apply for the following hunts at GoOutdoorsFlorida.com:

  • Strazzulla Archery and Crossbow Deer and Wild Hog Hunt
    • When: August 6-8, 2021.
    • Where: Strazzulla Unit, a remote 2,586-acre area. Hunters should expect to travel several miles on foot, bicycle, or boat to reach the hunt area.
    • Allowed methods of take: Bow or crossbow.
    • License and Permit Requirements: In addition to the FWC issued permit, all hunters must possess and carry a signed refuge hunt permit (signed brochure) while hunting. Refuge entrance fees apply.
  • 2021 Refuge Interior Deer and Wild Hog Hunt
    • When: December 3-5, 2021.
    • Where: Refuge Interior includes over 141,000 acres of Everglades habitat and is accessible by non-motorized watercraft or airboat. An airboat permit is available for $100.
    • Allowed methods of take: Centerfire rifle, shotgun, centerfire pistol, muzzleloader, pre-charged pneumatic air gun, crossbow, or bow.
    • License and Permit Requirements: In addition to the FWC issued permit, all hunters also must possess and carry a signed refuge hunt permit (signed brochure) while hunting. Refuge entrance fees apply.

With the addition of deer and wild hog hunting, over 99% of the refuge’s 145,188 acres are open to hunting seasonally and by permit.
