Sedalia MO - Fresh off his victory at the Washington State Highpower Championship, James Fox of Team Berger continued his dominant performance, securing another win at the Oregon State Highpower Championship held the weekend of June 28-29.
The Oregon State Highpower Championship, hosted by the Oregon State Shooting Association at the Douglas Ridge Rifle Club in Eagle Creek, draws top Highpower shooters from across the nation. This year's event featured a unique two-day format, challenging competitors with two 800-point regional course-of-fire matches and a Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP) Excellence-in-Competition (EIC) match.
"The unconventional format has competitors shooting all the standing slow fire, sitting rapid fire, and prone rapid-fire stages for both regional matches on the first day," Fox explained. "Then, both prone slow fire stages and the EIC match are fired on the second day. This setup required the zeros I acquired on day one for 200 and 300 yards to hold true for the no-sighter CMP EIC match on day two."
Adding to the challenge, Oregon experienced significant temperature variation during the competition, with temperatures ranging from the high 70s on the first day to the mid-90s on the second. Despite this, Fox remained confident in his equipment. "I wasn't concerned about the temperature affecting my zeros because I knew the Vihtavuori N140 I was using is very temperature stable, meaning my ammunition wouldn't see much change in velocity."
Fox’s confidence paid off. "My knowledge was verified when my groups were still centered up at 300 yards with the same zero from the prior day, despite the temperature being roughly 15 degrees higher," Fox stated.
Fox attributes his consistent success, including eight consecutive wins at the Oregon State Highpower Championships, to both his consistency as a shooter and his reliance on top-tier ammunition and components. "To have consecutive wins like this, you must be a consistent shooter, and part of that consistency comes from using the best ammunition and components available. That's why I shoot the Berger 80.5 grain Fullbore Target bullets”.
