Rhode Wins Silver Medal at the ISSF World Championship

(Accokeek, MD) Kim Rhode, six-time Olympic champion and Team Beretta shooter, brought her stellar ISSF World Cup journey to an end this week with a silver medal finish at the 52nd ISSF World Championship in Changwon, Korea.

With gold medals in 3 previous stages of this year’s competition, Rhode now has won 21 World Cup gold medals and 37 medals thus far in her outstanding career.

Rhode, shooting with a Beretta DT11, started the competition with an exceptional qualification round as she missed only 7 targets out of 125, putting her in fourth place as she advanced to the final competition.

Rhode put forth a great performance in the final round as she achieved a silver medal finish with a score of 56 out of 60, just one bird behind gold medalist and teammate Caitlin Connor after they went bird-for-bird throughout the entire round.

With their podium finishes, Rhode and Connor secured both quota places for Team USA in the 2020 Olympics. Although these quota wins do not guarantee that they will represent the U.S. at the next Olympic Games, these quota spots will earn them valuable extra points for the U.S. Olympic Team selection process throughout the next two years.

Rhode also received a gold medal during the team competition as a part of Team USA. Alongside fellow teammates Caitlin Connor and Amber English, Rhode’s qualification score was combined with her fellow U.S. competitors for a score of 355, a new World Record for this event.

In addition to her two medal wins in Changwon, Rhode was elected as the new Chair of the ISSF Athletes Committee after receiving the highest number of votes from her fellow competitors.

Rhode recently attended the ISSF Summer Selection Match at the Hill County Shooting Sports Center in Kerrville, Texas. This selection match determines which athletes will compete in the first two World Cup stages in 2019 for each shotgun category.

Rhode secured her spot once again on the U.S. International Skeet team with a gold medal performance and gained a brand-new spot on the U.S. International Trap team with a silver medal performance. She finished the selection match with the highest qualification scores in both events, 246/250 and 226/250 respectively.

Rhode will resume her international dominance next year when she competes for both the U.S. Skeet and Trap team at the 2019 World Cup in Acapulco, Mexico.
