The Gulf Council’s Ecosystem Technical Committee to Meet

The Gulf of Mexico Fishery Management Council will host a meeting of its Ecosystem Technical Committee on April 19 and 20, 2023. The meeting will convene each day from 8:30 AM EDT – 4:30 PM EDT at the Council offices located at 4107 W. Spruce Street, Suite 200, Tampa, Florida 33607.

The Technical Committee will focus on how to operationalize the Gulf Fishery Ecosystem Plan. This will include reviewing the goals, objectives, and mission statement of the plan and discussing how to develop a Gulf Fishery Ecosystem Plan around fishery ecosystem issues. Based on the Council’s request, the Technical Committee will also discuss potential fishery ecosystem issues, suggest metrics for prioritizing those issues, and recommend the top four issues to begin work on. The Technical Committee will also begin to discuss stakeholder engagement in the Fishery Ecosystem Plan process.

Finally, the Technical Committee will discuss potentially updating the 2017 Ecosystem Status Report for the Gulf of Mexico.

Public comment will be held before the meeting adjourns.

The Gulf of Mexico Fishery Management Council is one of eight regional Fishery Management Councils established by the Fishery Conservation and Management Act of 1976.
