SCI Commends Confirmation of Michael Boren as Undersecretary of Agriculture for Natural Resources and Environment

Washington, D.C. — October 9, 2025 — Safari Club International (SCI) applauds the Senate’s confirmation of Michael Boren as Undersecretary of Agriculture for Natural Resources and Environment in the United States Department of Agriculture. This leadership role is critical in overseeing the United States Forest Service, which manages over 200 million acres of public land and provides crucial wildlife habitat and access for hunters and outdoor recreationists. The position also oversees the Natural Resources Conservation Service, and assists farmers, ranchers, and forest owners in conserving natural resources on working lands.

“SCI commends the confirmation of Mr. Boren. We stand ready to collaborate with the Department of Agriculture under Mr. Boren’s leadership to advance policies that protect the freedom to hunt, conserve wildlife populations, and sustain America’s outdoor heritage for generations to come,” said SCI CEO W. Laird Hamberlin.

As Undersecretary, Mr. Boren will also help guide the Department of Agriculture’s conservation policy in light of the multi-use mandate of National Forests. This role is vital to promoting collaboration with private landowners to expand conservation from public to private lands, and to balance the uses of Forest Service lands ranging from hunting and other outdoor recreation and including timber and minerals development. Mr. Boren’s leadership will be pivotal in balancing conservation, recreation, and resource management.
