(TALLAHASSEE, Fla.) – On Saturday, June 8 and Sunday, June 9, Keep Florida Fishing® invites Florida residents and visitors to take part in a weekend of license-free fishing in state freshwater fisheries. The two-day event is part of a total of eight license-free fishing days offered each year by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC).
“Take advantage of the final license-free freshwater fishing weekend of 2019 by introducing a youth angler to fishing on Florida’s lakes, ponds, rivers and streams,” said Gary Jennings, Director of Keep Florida Fishing. “On behalf of Florida’s four million anglers, we say thank you to FWC for continuing the tradition of license-free fishing opportunities.”
“FWC’s license-free fishing weekend is a great opportunity to spend time with family and friends enjoying Florida’s three million acres of lakes, ponds and reservoirs and approximately 12,000 miles of rivers, streams and canals,” said Kellie Ralston, Southeast Fisheries Policy Director of the American Sportfishing Association. “Take advantage of this opportunity and introduce those closest to you to the love of fishing.”
While this is the last weekend of license-free freshwater fishing, Floridians should mark their calendars with the year’s remaining license-free saltwater fishing dates on Saturday, Sept. 7 and Saturday, Nov. 30.
According to FWC, while the fishing license requirement is waived for all recreational anglers (residents and non-residents), all other rules apply.
