January 2024 - Firearms & Ammunition Exports

NSSF tracks and reports monthly U.S. export units for several sporting arms, ammunition, and optics categories from the US International Trade Commission. Below are the results for January 2024 compared to January 2023.

  • January Handgun exports decreased 38.6 percent from 37,008 to 22,713 units. Within the handgun category, Pistol export units decreased 39.3 percent from 35,953 to 21,811 units while exported Revolver units dropped 14.5 percent from 1,055 to 902 units.
  • January Rifle exports were down 2.1 percent from 22,431 to 21,954 units.
  • January Shotgun category posted a 23.0 percent decrease in exported units from 8,003 to 6,165.
  • January Muzzleloader category increased 752.8 percent from 36 to 307 units exported.
  • January Other Cartridges (excluding Shotgun cartridges) category decreased 7.8 percent from 64.6 million in 2023 to 59.6 million units exported in 2024.
  • January Shotgun Cartridges category decreased by 14.0 percent dropping to 2.5 million as compared to last year’s 2.9 million.
  • Telescopic Sights:
    • January Telescopic Sights for Rifles (HTS code 9013.10.2000, which includes military use) rose 45.8 percent from 17,321 units to 25,246.
  • Binoculars:
    • January Prism Binoculars [not for use with infrared light] (HTS code 9005.10.0040) increased 54.3 percent from 9,435 units to 14,556.
    • January Binoculars HTS code 9005.10.0080 [Other Binoculars, NESOI] decreased 52.7 percent from 36,456 units to 17,227.
  • Sound Suppressors:
    • January Sound Suppressors, Silencers, Mufflers and Similar Devices of Shotguns or Rifles of Heading 9303 (HTS code 9305.20.9100) increased 6.8 percent, increasing from 3,216 to 3,436 units.
    • January Parts and Accessories of Shotguns or Rifles of Heading 9303 (HTS code 9305.20.9500) were up 4.3% from 67,707 to 70,613 units.
