AWW… SHUCKS Oyster Social

SOLOMONS, MD – Gather some friends and join us for the Aww… Shucks Oyster Social, the museum’s annual fundraiser for the skipjack, Dee of St. Mary’s, on Saturday, October 13. Indulge in the fattest and saltiest oysters on the half shell from 4 – 7 p.m. under the lighthouse. Enjoy heavy hors d’ oeuvres, beer and wine, and live music. Tickets are $75 each and available online at https://calvertmarinemuseum.ticketforce.com/. Proceeds from this year’s event will support the endowment for the Dee of St. Mary’s.

Since acquiring the Dee in 2013, utilization of the skipjack has increased with educational programs, private charters, and public sails that have enabled many people to experience this floating classroom. The volunteer crew has invested hundreds of hours maintaining this vessel and the endowment will assist with the many challenges they face throughout the year as they care for this iconic wooden workboat.

The oyster social will include live music by Gary Rue, Billy Thompson, and Doug Barthalow. Beer and wine, compliments of Bozick Distributors, along with heavy hors d’ oeuvres from local restaurants promise an evening of relaxed fun, all in support of the Dee.

If you would like to make a tax deductible donation or are interested in sponsoring the event, please contact Vanessa Gill at 410-326-2042 ext. 18 or email Vanessa.Gill@calvertcountymd.gov for more information. We invite you to join us in caring for this beautiful piece of Chesapeake Bay history.
