Whitetails Unlimited has committed $27,000 to a Safe Shooting Initiative which began July 1, 2019 and the program is going great. The initiative is utilizing 1,500 Walker’s Combo Shooting Packs, which is comprised of a set of Walker’s ear and eye protection. Each of WTU’s 475 events are receiving 3 complimentary combo packs which are given away to attendees to create awareness. In addition to the combo packs, educational posters were created as well as a 2 page narrative in WTU’s Event Annual which is distributed to more than 130,000 people annually.
The Safe Shooting Initiative is capitalizing off the momentum gained the last two years from the Tree Stand Safety Initiative Whitetails Unlimited has featured. In each of the last two years WTU has brought awareness to tree stand safety with the initiative that highlighted the importance of using a safety line and a full-body harness. Whitetails Unlimited plans to continue to promote new initiatives in the future.
“There are a lot of individuals out there that still have an old school mentality when it comes to shooting and don’t use any sort of ear or eye protection,” says Whitetails Unlimited Program Service Director Russ Austad. “We’re hoping this initiative will break old habits.”
