The Gulf Council is currently accepting applications to fill a Fisheries Outreach Specialist position.
The Fisheries Outreach Specialist will be responsible for engaging with fishermen, stakeholders, and the broader public to communicate complex fishery management issues and promote meaningful participation in the Council process. The Fisheries Outreach Specialist will lead the development of assigned outreach and education materials and manage various databases to ensure accuracy of commercial and recreational fishing regulations. The Fisheries Outreach Specialist will support the Public Information Officer and work with Council staff and wide range of state and federal professionals, academic partners, and stakeholders.
Qualified candidates will have a Master’s degree (M.S. or M.A.), though a Bachelor’s degree (B.A. or B.S.) with a minimum of three years of relevant experience. Applicants should have educational or professional backgrounds in marine or environmental science, communications, marketing, biology, fisheries ecology, marine resource management, or related fields.
Candidates must possess strong oral and written communication skills and demonstrate a deep working knowledge of fisheries management, fisheries biology, and fishing communities. Experience with WordPress, social media management, database systems, and design software is highly desirable.
