The Gulf Council Convenes a Virtual Meeting of its Scientific and Statistical Committees

The Gulf of Mexico Fishery Management Council will convene a virtual meeting of its Standing and Special Reef Fish, Socioeconomic, and Ecosystem Scientific and Statistical Committees on May 7th and 8th, 2024. The meeting will convene at 8:30 AM eastern time, each day.

The Scientific and Statistical Committees will develop the terms of reference for the Gulf of Mexico Red Snapper Benchmark Assessment and receive a progress report from NOAA’s Southeast Fisheries Science Center on the Marine Recreational Information Program – Fishing Effort Survey (MRIP-FES) Steering Team. The Scientific and Statistical Committees will also consider assessing equity in the distribution of fisheries management benefits and hear a presentation on NOAA’s Equity and Environmental Justice Regional Plan. The meeting will conclude with consideration of alternative assessment methods and an update on reorganization of the Scientific and Statistical Committee structure and application process.

Public comment will be held over the webinar each day before the meeting adjourns.
